Does Houston Dynamo FC hold academy tryouts?

Houston Sports Park · Houston, Texas · Checked September 7, 2026

NoTrial information

No open tryouts for the Dynamo Academy itself. The club scouts through Talent ID Nights, a regional and national scouting network, and direct personal applications, and it says families do not need to wait for an invitation to reach out. What causes confusion is Houston Dynamo | Dash Youth, the club's large pay-to-play arm, which holds genuinely open tryouts every year for ages U7 to U18 across its Elite, Academy and Competitive programs. Twenty Dynamo Academy products have signed Homegrown contracts with the First Team.

How recruitment works

Talent ID Nights, personal application, or scouting at Dynamo Youth and regional clubs, leading to an Academy trial invitation. Academy is free once selected.

    Club programmeFree
    Elite programming interest form

For players not already in the Dynamo Youth system, this is the route to register interest in the Boys or Girls Academy program that plays in MLS NEXT. The club also lists a direct phone line for urgent contact.

Where scouts watch
  • Greater Houston, including The Woodlands and League City
  • Southeast Texas
  • Dynamo | Dash Youth and affiliated regional clubs
  • The club recruits mainly within its Texas homegrown territory, with national interest considered case by case
If a scout calls
  1. Ask directly whether an opportunity is with Dynamo Academy in MLS NEXT or Dynamo | Dash Youth's paid Elite, Academy or Competitive programs. Names overlap heavily.
  2. If applying directly, keep the message short and factual: player details, current team, position and video, rather than a long pitch.
  3. Ask which age band a Talent ID Night covers and what happens afterward, since the club uses several channels rather than one fixed tryout date.
  4. Homegrown signing rights depend on Texas territory rules, so ask how relocation would affect eligibility before moving.
Watch out

What to check before you agree

Dynamo | Dash Youth tryout pages and the Dynamo Academy MLS NEXT pages sit on the same htxsoccer.com site and can look interchangeable. Check whether a page is describing the free Academy or a paid Youth Soccer Club program.
"Academy" and "Elite" naming is used across several paid Dynamo | Dash Youth tiers, not only the MLS Academy.
Talent ID Nights and showcase events are genuine scouting opportunities, but attending one does not itself guarantee any Academy contact.
