Does Newcastle United run academy trials?

No open trials, but Newcastle is one of the few clubs that publishes the rules on its own academy page: one hour's travel for ages 9 to 11, ninety minutes for Under-12 to Under-16, a defined trial period after which families are told the outcome, and a full appraisal for any player who is unsuccessful. The club also gives a named recruitment contact for questions about its scouting network and development centres. Since moving to a full-time training model it can recruit nationally from Under-15, which has changed who it competes with.

A scouting network expanded since the 2021 takeover, with a bigger recruitment budget. Scouts cover junior leagues across Tyneside, Wearside, Northumberland and Durham.

The club states that at the end of the specified trial period the player and parents are told whether it was successful, and if not, the player gets a full appraisal of what to improve.

Paid advanced coaching and post-16 programmes run by the Foundation at NUCASTLE and across the region. Community coaching, not the academy.

What to bring to an academy trial

The club refers to its development centres on the official academy page and directs enquiries to its Recruitment Operations Manager at academyrecruitment@nufc.co.uk. The one club email in this set that is official and public.

- The academy is a mile from the first-team training ground. Ask about the pathway to the Under-21s, which the club has deliberately made younger.
