What it trains

What the game practises

Football IQ is how well a player reads the game and chooses what to do. Coaches also call it decision-making, game awareness or game vision. It is hard to practise at home because it needs a match around you. This game puts the match on a screen.

Scanning

Look around before the ball arrives. In blind mode the players disappear at the decision, so your child has to remember where everyone was.

Choosing

Pass, run, shoot or hold it. Each scene has one best option, a safe option and a wrong one, and the game explains the difference.

Speed

Six to ten seconds to decide, like a real match. Faster good decisions score more.

  • 40 match moments across five positions: centre-back, central midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger and striker.
  • The 60-second test: five scenes from five positions, then a Football IQ rating and a shareable card.
  • Daily challenge: three new scenes a day, one try.
  • Squad boards: a private team leaderboard shared by link. First names only.
  • Free. Works in a phone browser. No account or email. Leaderboards use a nickname only.
How to play

How the football game works

1. Watch

Watch the players.

Pick a position. Watch a short scene on the pitch. Look at your teammates and the other team.

2. Choose

Choose what to do.

Choose an action before the timer runs out. The game shows what happens next.

3. Learn

Read the explanation.

The game explains the answer. Talk about it with your child, then try another question.

The game uses simple football examples. Its score does not measure your child’s ability or chances of joining an academy.

Questions parents ask

What is football IQ?

Football IQ (called soccer IQ in the US) is how well a player reads the game and chooses what to do: where to look before the ball arrives, when to pass, run, shoot or hold it, and how fast they decide. Coaches often call it decision-making, game awareness or game vision.

Is this a real IQ test?

No. The score is a game rating based on the choices your child makes in these scenes and how quickly they make them. It does not measure intelligence, ability or chances of joining an academy. Use it as a starting point for a conversation about the game.

What does the game practise?

Looking around before receiving the ball (scanning), choosing between pass, run, shot or hold, and deciding within six to ten seconds. After each choice it replays the best option and explains the principle in one or two short sentences.

What age is it for?

Children aged about 8 to 16. Younger children can play with a parent reading the explanations aloud.

Is it free? Does my child need an account?

Yes, it is free. There is no account, download or payment. It runs in a phone or computer browser. We never ask for a child's email or date of birth. Leaderboards and squad boards use a first name or nickname only.

Can a whole team play together?

Yes. A coach, parent or player can make a squad board, send the link to the team chat, and the board ranks the squad by Football IQ. It shows first names or nicknames only.

Will this help with an academy trial?

It can help your child practise the kind of decisions coaches watch for, but it is not trial preparation on its own and it is not linked to any club. Scouts watch real matches. Playing plenty of football, in different positions, matters more.
